“The Wire” and “Lovecraft Country” star Michael K. Williams found dead at age 54

Michael K. Williams has died at the age of 54.

“It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams. They ask for your privacy while grieving this unsurmountable loss,”  his longtime representative for Shafran PR, Mariana Shafran, shared in a statement with THR.

The news was first reported by the New York Post.

Michael is best known for his roles in The Wire and most recently Lovecraft Country.

He has also starred in Boardwalk Empire, and was best known for his role as Bessie Smith’s husband Jack Gee in the HBO telefilm biopic Bessie.

Just last week, it was announced that Michael had joined the upcoming George Forman biopic and would star as trainer Doc Broadus.

Following the report, fans and peers flooded social media to pay tribute to Michael.
