On Tuesday (September 7), the 47-year-old original host of the beloved Nickelodeon show Blues Clues returned to the limelight to share a heartwarming message with her now-grown fans.
“Hi, you got a second?” Steve Burns asked in a clip shared on Twitter of Nick Jr., wearing an updated version of his iconic green striped shirt.
“You remember how when we were younger we used to run around and hang out with Blue, and find clues, and talk to Mr. Salt, and freak out about the mail, and do all the fun stuff? And then one day, I was like, ‘Oh hey, guess what? Big news… I’m leaving,’” Steve recalled before reminding fans how he spent four seasons “going to college” in 2002. After that decided to leave the show.
After leaving the show, Steve explained in the video that he was able to challenge himself and use his brain. Now that he has grown up, he has to do many things that he always wanted to do.
He then admitted that all his fans have been traveling since leaving Blues Clues.
“Look at all you have done and all you have accomplished in all that time,” Steve said. “And it’s just… it’s just so amazing, right? I mean, we started out with clues and now it’s what? Student loans, and jobs, and families, and some of that has been kind of hard, you know? I know you know.”
Even though it’s been a long time, Steve thanked all the fans of Blues Clues for the support and love they’ve given over the years.
“That’s super cool,” Steve concluded. “I guess I just wanted to say that after all these years I never forgot you. Ever. And I’m super glad we’re still friends…”
Steve was the original host of Blues Clues when it premiered on Nickelodeon in 1996. After leaving the show, Steve made music with the band Flaming Lips. Over the years, he would occasionally return and make cameos on blues clues.
In an interview a few years ago, Steve opened up about his decision to leave Blues Clues.
