Mumbai Saga Director Sanjay Gupta revealed that John Abraham wanted a theatrical release

Sharing is caring!

The pandemic has changed the release plans of several big projects in the Hindi film industry. While most of them chose to go for direct-to-OTT releases, some films decided to wait until theaters opened.

The Mumbai Saga is one such film. In a recent chat with Mid-Day, director Sanjay Gupta said that although they were almost on the verge of selling it to Amazon Prime Video, it was John Abraham who pushed for a theatrical release since December, with Emraan Hashmi supporting him. Sanjay says that this support from both the actors gave him the confidence to take risks and opt for a theatrical release.

Sanjay says that while he was recording the sound, he had imagined how the dialogues would happen while playing in the theater. He says that one has to take the leap and take this risk and see if his film is like a litmus test to see if the audience returns to theaters so that other films have better scope.

Rohit Roy, Sunil Shetty, Prateek Babbar, Gulshan Grover, Kajal Aggarwal and Mahesh Manjrekar have also played important roles in Mumbai Saga. The film is all set to release in theaters on 19 March 2021.
