In pre-covid times, box office numbers would determine the success of a film, whereas now in the trend of OTT platforms, the number of views each film gets has become extremely important for filmmakers. But apart from all this, it is the dream of every filmmaker to get recognition at the national and international level with some of the most respected awards and one of them is the Academy Award. It is also considered an honor to receive a nomination for your film at the Oscars. And so I am sure that the makers of Sherni and Sardar Udham will be on top of the world right now as their films are being sent to Oscar 2022. Talking about the lioness, it is directed by Amit V Masurkar and sees Vidya playing the role of a forest officer who is hunting a man-eating tigress. The cast of the film includes Vijay Raaz, Sharat Saxena, Ila Arun, Mukul Chadha and Brijendra Kala. This will be Amit’s second film to be shortlisted for the Oscars, the first being Rajkummar Rao’s Newton.

Meanwhile, Sardar Udham is directed by Shoojit Sircar and is a biopic on freedom fighter Sardar Udham Singh, who vowed to avenge the brutal Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919. The film also stars Amol Parashar in the pivotal role of Shahid Bhagat Singh, who is a treat to watch.
Apart from these two films, Martin Prakat’s Nayattu, a Malayalam film and a Tamil film titled Mandela have also been shortlisted for Oscar nominations. According to a report in India Today, a panel of 15 members will watch 14 films at Bijoli Cinema in Bhawanipur, Kolkata and the final film will be selected. The film will be India’s official nomination for the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars.
