Lorne Michaels is paying tribute to the late Norm Macdonald at the 2021 Emmy Awards on Sunday (September 19).
Accepting the award for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series, the 76-year-old SNL producer paid tribute to Norm, who passed away last week at the age of 61.
“Weekend Update has been part of SNL for 46 seasons,” Lorne said on stage. “And here I’d like to pay tribute to one of the best we ever had, Norm Macdonald.”
Norm served as an anchor on SNL’s Weekend Update segment while he was a cast member on the show from 1993 to 1998.
Lorne wasn’t the only star to honor Norm during the Emmys.
John Oliver also paid tribute to the late star while accepting the award for the Variety Talk Series.
“And I just want to say, this is an award for late-night comedy. No one was funnier, in the last 20 years, than Norm Macdonald on late-night comedy,” John said.
