Ellen Pompeo is getting real about the future of Grey’s Anatomy.
While heading out for the 2021 Emmy Awards on Sunday (September 19), the 51-year-old actress was asked about fan theories that the long-running ABC medical drama is nearing its end.
“They’re not far off,” Ellen admitted to Entertainment Tonight. “I mean, I’ve been trying to get away for years. I have been trying. It’s not because I haven’t been trying. I have strong relationships at the network and they have been very, very good to me, and have incentivized me to stay.”
Ellen went on to say that “creatively, as long as there’s something to do,” the show will continue.
“Miraculously, we keep coming up with ways to have a reason to stay and if there’s a reason, that warrants it,” Ellen added.
Ellen’s latest comments come after she revealed she has “no desire” to act again after Grey.
Season 18 of Grey’s Anatomy premieres Thursday, September 30 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
