Ryan Gosling has joined the cast of the upcoming Barbie movie!
The 40-year-old Oscar-nominated actor will play Kane in the film, with Margot Robbie as the title character.
Greta Gerwig is directing the film from a script she co-wrote with husband Noah Baumbach. It is expected to start production “on top of 2022”.
Not much is yet known about the film’s plot, but Deadline reports that “one can expect that this will not be your typical take on the doll’s story.”
Amy Schumer was originally attached to star in a live-action Barbie film and then Anne Hathaway was at the fore. Then, Margot was later attached to the project with a new take written by Greta and Noah.
Deadline reports that Ryan‘s busy schedule led to him initially passing “on playing the part, but insiders add that as pre-production dragged out and the studio remained persistent with him being their only choice, an opening in his schedule appeared, allowing him to sign on to the project.”
