‘Rust’ director Joel Souza released from hospital after being injured in an on-set accident

Joel Souza, the writer and director of the film Rust, has been released from the hospital after being injured in a tragic accident on the sets.

A prop gun being used by Alec Baldwin was discharged and took the life of cinematographer Halyana Hutchins. It also injured Joel.

Halyana was helicoptered to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced her brought dead. Authorities say Joel “was transported by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical center,” where he was treated for his injuries.

Francis Fisher, who is part of the cast of Rust and who has paid tribute to Helena on social media, revealed the news about Joel’s condition.

In response to a tweet by Patricia Arquette, who sent prayers to Joel, Frances revealed that she is out of the hospital.

“Director Joel Souza told me he’s out of hospital,” she said.

Joel’s rep confirmed to Deadline that he is indeed out of the hospital.
