New details are emerging about the prop gun shot by Alec Baldwin that killed cinematographer Helena Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza on the set of Rust.

A horrific accident happened on Thursday night (October 21) and the information about what happened is still coming to the fore.

According to IndieWire on Friday (October 22), Prop Gun had a “live single round” via an email sent by union IATSE Local 44 to its members.

The union also stated that the New Mexico crew members worked in the props, set decoration, special effects, and construction departments, not union members.

“A live single round was accidentally fired on set by the principal actor, hitting both the Director of Photography, Local 600 member Halyna Hutchins, and Director Joel Souza,” the email reads.

“Local 44 has confirmed that the Props, Set Decoration, Special Effects and Construction Departments were staffed by New Mexico crew members. There were no Local 44 members on the call sheet.”

Secretary-Treasurer Anthony Pavluk described it as “an accidental weapon discharge”.
